“1/10” – Eight of the worst individual England performances in rugby history

#7. Jonathan Webb vs Wales (1987)

England were abysmal as they were knocked out of the inaugural 1987 Rugby World Cup by neighbours Wales, suffering a 16-3 defeat.

Jonathan Webb had been England’s star man at the tournament so far, meaning his drop in performance was particularly notable. He fell off tackles as Wales ran in three tries while fumbling several very decent counter-attack opportunities.

#8. Mike Catt vs New Zealand (1995)

Not the worst performance – but a moment that no rugby fan will ever forget was the sight of Jonah Lomu ploughing over Catt.

He was simply a doormat to the All Black powerhouse as New Zealand went onto win 45-29. Catt was probably just unfortunate that he was the last line of defence on the day Lomu decided to score four tries, hense why we haven’t put him further down the list.
