Despite his respect for the former England coach, it’s fair to say he wasn’t a fan of his methods.

“On the 2012 tour of South Africa, we were treated like kids,” wrote Haskell.

“It may or may not have had something to do with the fact that Stuart was an ex-teacher… Being treated like kids on a school trip bred resentment.

“It’s not like we wanted to go on the smash all the time, but you should be allowed to let your hair down occasionally, especially after beating the All Blacks.

“Stuart’s regime had too many alpha male coaches – guys who were great as individuals but intimidating as a group. They weren’t approachable or the kind of blokes who would put their arm around a player or judge the mood of the squad. And there weren’t enough players with big personalities.
