We could have went for England’s early exit at the pool stage exit of their 2016 World Cup, but the suggestion they’d appoint their first overseas coach following that would seem even more ludicrous in 2010. The Aussie had just ended up on what was, at the time, the coaching scrapheap in Japan with Suntory Goliath following eighth and ninth place finishes with Saracens. Nine years later, he led England to a Rugby World Cup final. Absolutely mental.
