REPORTS | Bath linked with move for World Cup winner

Bath’s search for a top-class fly-half has seen them linked with up to a dozen different playmakers in recent months.

In what seems to be a never ending search, Bath have seen bids for the likes of Finn RussellGareth Anscombe, Sam Davies and Handre Pollard fail.

Springbok Johan Goosen has also been mentioned in dispatches as an option for the club but is currently on a lucrative deal at Montpellier.

Moves for Argentina fly-half Domingo Miotti and Ireland number 10 Johnny Sexton have also been reported in recent weeks.

According to Somerset Live and The Rugby Paper, Stuart Hooper has now turned his attention to Springbok World Cup winner Damian Willemse from Super Rugby side the Stormers.

The 22-year-old has already spent time in England after signing a short-term deal with Saracens in 2019 before leaving early to join up with the South Africa World Cup squad.

Willemse – who has long been a subject of much excitement within South African shores – has seen his stock rise exponentially since his involvement with Rassie Erasmus’ triumphant side.

He was called up as a late replacement to centre Jesse Kriel and featured twice in the green and gold during the global showpiece event.
