BREAKING: Warren Gatland in shock talks for Six Nations return

Warren Gatland is the leading contender to return as Wales coach if the Welsh Rugby Union decide to replace Wayne Pivac.

Ten months before the World Cup starts, the WRU is holding a review into the dismal autumn campaign that will consider Pivac’s position.

“Has anyone been in contact with you, because there are rumours around Wales currently that you may have had a phone call already?” Sara Elgan asked the former Wales coach during Prime Video’s coverage.

“You know more than me!” he replied to Elgan.

“So is that a no?” she pressed.

“No!” Gatland replied.

“That’s a definite no,” Elgan continued, before moving on to the next segment of Amazon’s coverage.

Wales suffered three defeats against New Zealand, Georgia and Australia with a sole win against Argentina.

Reports this morning Gatland could be in line for an interim role until the World Cup in France.

No official decision has been made to part company with Pivac or any formal deal agreed with Gatland.

How the England XV would look with Warren Gatland in charge

BACK-THREE:

  • 15. Freddie Steward (Leicester Tigers)
  • 14. Adam Radwan (Newcastle Falcons)
  • 11. Elliot Daly (Saracens)

Kick your penalties from wherever or whenever is something Gatland has always pushed. That explains Daly’s shock selection in the 2021 Lions squad due to his ability to slot kicks from over 50m out. Watson is another player he’s always loved, while Radwan’s performances so far this season make him the front runner for the other shirt.

CENTRES:

  • 13. Henry Slade (Exeter Chiefs)
  • 12. Manu Tuilagi (Sale Sharks)

A powerhouse ball carrier on the inside with a more technical playmaker on the outside is a staple of Gatland sides down the years, with the partnership of Jamie Roberts and Jonathan Davies coming to mind. Tuilagi is without doubt England’s best big man to be the first received while Slade’s performances for Chiefs have been consistently excellent so far this season.
