Bristol boss Pat Lam gives injury update on Steve Luatua

Pat Lam has given an injury update on his star player Steven Luatua after the former All Black limped off the field for the Barbarians on Saturday.

Addressing the concern, the Bristol boss joked: “I think he was more tired.”

He explained: “There was a knee on knee collision there and he got tackled by one of the New Zealand guys, it wasn’t too major.”

Lam, who has played six times for the Barbarians himself, was full of praise for his star player’s performance. He said: “I thought he did himself proud, I thought he did Bristol proud, and his family proud. He again just highlighted his class.

“I think the people who were at Jersey and at Bristol games know how good he is. I know not everyone is watching Championship games but they saw him do at the weekend what he does for Bristol each week.

“That shows the calibre of the player and he is certainly giving his all for Bristol Rugby. He has not gone down a level as some people might think, if anything he is raising the standards on and off the field around here.”
