British & Irish Lions set to play in front of 95,000 fans in 2021

According to The Rugby Paper, the British & Irish Lions will break new ground in 2021 when they tour South Africa.

The Springboks are planning to use their Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg for one of the three tests, which has a capacity of 95,000.

It’s expected that the 50,000 seater Green Point Stadium in Cape Town and Johannesburg’s 62,567 capacity Ellis Park will stage the other two Tests.

Head of the South Africa Rugby Union Mark Alexander said: “We are in negotiations with the Lions and the stadium authorities.

“We want to maximise the opportunity to play in the biggest stadiums.

“We’re looking at locations and that’s still up for discussion.”
