CONFIRMED: England trio cited and could ALL face bans

Hooker Dylan Hartley, number eight Nathan Hughes and prop Joe Marler will all have disciplinary hearings on Wednesday after alleged offences during the Champions Cup, European Professional Club Rugby has announced.

Dylan Hartley (Northampton Saints)

EPCR has received a citing complaint against the Northampton Saints hooker, Dylan Hartley (No 2), following his club’s Champions Cup, Round 2 match against ASM Clermont Auvergne at Stade Marcel-Michelin on Saturday, 21 October 2017.


Hartley, who was shown a yellow card following the incident by match referee, Ben Whitehouse (Wales), is alleged to have struck the ASM Clermont Auvergne prop, Rabah Slimani (No 3), in the 30th minute of the match in contravention of Law 10.4 (a).

The complaint was made by the match Citing Commissioner, Douglas Hunter (Scotland).

Jeremy Summers (England), Chairman, Rhian Williams (Wales) and Frank Hadden (Scotland) have been appointed as the independent Disciplinary Committee for the hearing which will take place in London on Wednesday (25 October).

Law 10.4 (a) Striking with the hand
Under World Rugby’s Sanctions for Foul Play, Law 10.4 (a), striking with the hand, carries the following sanction entry points – Low End: 2 weeks; Mid-range: 4 weeks; Top end: 8 to 52 weeks.

Nathan Hughes (Wasps)

EPCR has received a citing complaint against the Wasps No 8, Nathan Hughes, following his club’s Champions Cup, Round 2 match against Harlequins at the Ricoh Arena on Sunday, 22 October 2017.

Hughes is alleged to have tackled the Harlequins fly half, Marcus Smith (No 10), dangerously in the 29th minute of the match in contravention of Law 10.4 (e). The complaint was made by the match Citing Commissioner, Murray Whyte (Ireland).

Roger Morris (Wales), Chairman, Andrea Caranci (Italy) and a third member to be confirmed, have been appointed as the independent Disciplinary Committee for the hearing which will take place in London on Wednesday (25 October).

Under World Rugby’s Sanctions for Foul Play, Law 10.4 (e), dangerous tackling, carries the following sanction entry points – Low End: 2 weeks; Mid-range: 6 weeks; Top end: 10 to 52 weeks.

Dave Ward (Harlequins)

EPCR has received a citing complaint against the Harlequins player, Dave Ward (No 7), following his club’s Champions Cup, Round 2 match against Wasps at the Ricoh Arena on Sunday, 22 October 2017.

Ward is alleged to have struck the Wasps flanker, Thomas Young (No 7), with his head in the 47th minute of the match in contravention of Law 10.4 (a). The complaint was made by the match Citing Commissioner, Murray Whyte (Ireland).

Julian Morris (England), Chairman, Philippe Cavalieros (France) and Owain Rhys James (Wales) have been appointed as the independent Disciplinary Committee for the hearing which will take place in London on Wednesday (25 October).

Under World Rugby’s Sanctions for Foul Play, Law 10.4 (a), striking with the head, carries the following sanction entry points – Low End: 4 weeks; Mid-range: 10 weeks; Top end: 16 to 104 weeks.

Joe Marler (Harlequins)

EPCR has received a citing complaint against the Harlequins prop, Joe Marler (No 1), following his club’s Champions Cup, Round 2 match against Wasps at the Ricoh Arena on Sunday, 22 October 2017.

Marler, who was shown a yellow card following the incident by match referee Mathieu Raynal (France), is alleged to have struck the Wasps second row, Will Rowlands (No 5), with his elbow in the 48th minute of the match in contravention of Law 10.4 (a).

The complaint was made by the match Citing Commissioner, Murray Whyte (Ireland).

Dmitrii Gerasimov (Ensei-STM)

EPCR has received a citing complaint against the Enisei-STM centre, Dmitrii Gerasimov (No 12), following his club’s Challenge Cup, Round 2 match against Dragons at Slava Stadium, Moscow on Saturday, 21 October 2017.

Gerasimov is alleged to have struck the Dragons flanker, Ollie Griffiths (No 7), with his elbow in the 23rd minute of the match in contravention of Law 10.4 (a). The complaint was made by the match Citing Commissioner, Jean-Claude Lunel (France).

Julian Morris (England), Chairman, Philippe Cavalieros (France) and Owain Rhys James (Wales) have been appointed as the independent Disciplinary Committee for the hearing which will take place by video conference on Wednesday (25 October).
