CONFIRMED: Saracens add Irish forward ahead of 2016/17 season

Saracens have confirmed that Ireland U20 hooker Tadgh McElroy has joined the Club’s senior academy.

The news comes after it was confirmed this morning that long-serving hooker Petrus du Plessis would be leaving the club to join newly-promoted London Irish.

McElroy, who came through the ranks with Dundalk RFC, impressed for Ireland U20s during the 2017 U20 Six Nations, starting all five games and scoring three tries. He joins the reigning European champions from Dublin’s Landsdown RFC.

Saracens academy manager, Mike Hynard: “Tadgh is a highly-rated prospect and we’re very happy that he will be joining our academy system. He’s a powerful player, a very good ball-carrier and is strong at the set-piece.”

“We’re looking forward to helping Tadgh settle in at Saracens and help him fulfil his potential both on and off the field.”

On his move to Saracens, McElroy said: “I am delighted to have signed for the best club team in Europe currently. It will take me out of my comfort zone and challenge me 100% and I have no doubt it is the best place for me to develop as a player in a winning environment with excellent coaches.”
