Wallabies star Karmichael Hunt has been charged with drug possession after he was allegedly caught with cocaine by police in Brisbane.
The New Zealand-born rugby player was searched at Fortitude Valley at approximately 3.40am on Saturday morning (NZT).
Hunt and another man were issued with a notice to appear in court.
“An incident involving Karmichael Hunt occurred which resulted in his arrest,” his high-profile lawyer Adam Magill told the Courier Mail.
“At this stage no further instructions have been taken.
“There were two males involved and there has been a subsequent charge of possession. They have been charged conjointly.”
Another man, 32, was also charged for possession of an apparatus used in relation to drug use.
Rugby Australia understand that Hunt has since been released by the Queesland Police.
“Rugby Australia takes all matters relating to the off-field behaviour of its players seriously and has commenced an investigation into the incident in conjunction with the Queensland Rugby Union,” said in an official statement regarding the incident.
It’s not the first time Hunt’s had trouble with the law, having previously been arrested and charged with four counts of supply of cocaine in 2014.
Hunt recently re-signed with the Wallabies and the Queensland Reds.
