Eddie Jones praises “amazingly physical” James Haskell

  • James Haskell was the star man as England triumphed over Australia on Saturday
  • It was only the fourth time the men in white have beat the Wallabies on their home turf
  • Haskell was at the heart of a tremendous performance from the England pack
England head coach has praised his man of the match James Haskell, who was outstanding as the men in white beat Australia 39-28 in Brisbane on Saturday.

“The old fella was good wasn’t he,” said Jones. “He was amazingly physical. Everyone said he couldn’t play Test match rugby at openside flanker but he’s played there seven matches in a row and done very well.”

Jones though isn’t taking anything for granted and is now aiming to top this famous win with what would be an unforgettable series triumph.

“We’ve come here to win the series, so next weeks super important and we’re focussed on that already.

“We showed real grit, we had a specific plan which we thought would beat Australia.

“They caught us out with their pace at the start of the game and took us some time to adjust to that but we did it well.

“I’m only the coach, when they get on the pitch they have to own the team and they’re all doing that really well.”
