Eddie Jones responds to reports he’s set for crunch talks with the RFU

Rugby-born Cockerill enjoyed a successful 12 years with Leicester Tigers between 2005 and 2017, winning four Premierships, reaching the European Cup final twice and consistently appearing at the top end of the division.

Though he perhaps overstayed his welcome as things turned sour towards the end of his reign – he was sacked in January 2017 after a poor run of results which saw the players demand a change of direction – there is no doubting his ability to coach.

He spent time with Toulon thereafter, before taking charge at Edinburgh for the 2017/18 season where he has begun to stabilise his reputation as one of the finest English coaches around.

The club reached the Pro14 playoffs in the 17/18 season for the first time, meanwhile a host of his star men have gone on to make their international debuts for Scotland.

Something of an underdog who can develop from within may be just what England need.
