Eight current players who would be nailed on for England Saxons caps

3. Dave Ewers

Exeter’s man-mountain out on the pitch every time he plays, Ewers is one of the most physical and abrasive back-row forwards in European rugby. He’d be the first name on the teamsheet for the Saxons.

4. Will Welch

Welch became the Falcons youngest ever club captain in 2012 when, at the age of 22, he took on the leadership role. Skippering the side to the Championship title in his first season he has since led them in the Premiership, where his tireless work ethic and relentless tackling have marked him as a stand-out performer. He’s never even been considered for England, but we’d consider him for the Saxons without a moment’s hesitation.
