England 7’s star joins Premiership club after contract cancellation

England 7s star Charlton Kerr has agreed to join London Irish with immediate effect.

Kerr, who plays centre in the 7s format, is most comfortable at full-back or wing in XVs and has formally been involved in the Northampton Saints and Wasps academies during his career.

The 22-year-old made his debut for England 7s at the 2016 World Rugby 7s in Las Vegas, and has since gone on to make 89 more appearances, going over for 27 tries.

The explosive Kerr is looking forward to testing his abilities back in the XV format of rugby, stating: “I am very excited to get the chance to join London Irish and do my best for the club.”

“I have picked up some great experience on the 7s circuit over the past few years, so it will be a good opportunity to translate this into the XV game with Irish.”

“Charlton is an exciting talent that has really shown what he can do whilst wearing the England 7s jersey and we look forward to seeing this transfer into our format” said Declan Kidney, Director of Rugby.

“He is a strong, fast player and we are eager to seeing his skills on the pitch for London Irish.”
