Jones is looking to ensure they do not face burnout next season by the heavy demands of the Lions 10-match schedule.

“You never know how players are going to come back from the Lions tour,” said Jones.

“Some guys might come back and might have only held tackle bags, played a game against Bay of Plenty or whoever or the Chiefs, played 20 minutes.

“There will be guys who don’t get a lot of game time and those guys will be busting to play – other guys might play three Tests and be absolutely mentally and physically fatigued and then we will need to talk to their clubs and say, ‘how can we look after these players better to get them through?LIONS

“We will talk to the clubs. As long as we can get that understanding with the clubs in the autumn that they have had a proper rest and regeneration.

“That is what we have got in mind. We will look at each of those guys very carefully.”
