A player who led by example and the kind of man you would always want alongside you in the trenches when the chips are down. Would never ask someone to do something he wouldn’t do himself.

Tindall said: “The leader of the great England team that won the World Cup in 2003, and not just the best player on the field, but off it as well. He led from the front , he was my type of captain and also the best second rower that’s ever played the game. Hated playing against him in the Premiership.”
