England and Wales forwards to train together before autumn Tests

England and Wales’ forward packs will train together for the first time before their Autumn Internationals.

The one-off session idea came about following this summer’s highly successful British and Irish Lions tour to New Zealand.

England forwards coach Steve Borthwick was among Lions coach Warren Gatland’s assistants for the drawn series and now wants the nations to help each other tune-up their packs.

“There will be a match of 12 large scrums and 15 line-outs,” said England boss Eddie Jones.

“We wanted Wayne Barnes (England) to referee but they asked for Nigel Owens (Wales) and we bowed to their wishes.”
