Former England rugby captain Martin Johnson CBE is the star attraction at an upcoming fundraising dinner, with all proceeds going to support disadvantaged children and young people during the school holidays.

The legendary lock will be guest of honour at a special dinner held at the Sixways Stadium, Worcester on Thursday 14th July. The evening will commence at 7.30 pm and will include a two-course dinner, charitable raffle and auction with proceeds raised from the evening supporting StreetGames holiday hunger programme – Fit and Fed.

Since its inception in 2016, StreetGames’ Fit and Fed programme has benefited 66,198 children/young people, with a whopping 528,582 free meals being provided in this time. But Fit and Fed is about more than just food, it also provides a wide range of sport and physical activity to help tackle inactivity and social isolation and to give children the chance to make new friends and get active. With approximately 4.3 million children and young people living in poverty across the UK, supporting families through the increased pressures of the school holidays is more important than ever.

Attendees can join Martin at the home stadium of Worcester Warriors, and will have a chance to chat with the sporting superstar and hear the unique insight of a world class athlete.

Martin played 84 times for England and played for the British and Irish Lions on three consecutive tours. He became the first man to captain the Lions on successive tours leading them to a famous series win in South Africa in 1997.

Martin famously captained the victorious England side to World Cup glory in 2003, becoming the first Englishman to lift the Rugby World Cup. He went to become one of the most respected players to don the famous English shirt. After a successful playing career, Martin spent 3 years as head coach of England, and is now well regarded as a rugby broadcaster for the BBC during the Six Nations

StreetGames Chief Executive Mark Lawrie said:

We are incredibly excited to have the support of a sports legend like Martin Johnson and delighted to be able to offer people across the Midlands the opportunity to join us for what promises to be a fantastic evening.

For too many young people, school holidays can be a time of hardship, hunger and isolation, as families in under-served communities struggle to fund the added food and childcare costs that the holidays bring. Fit and Fed exists to plug that gap, ensuring that children can enjoy good, nutritious food and fun physical activity through the holidays.

The money raised by this event will make a real difference to children and young people, and the evening promises to be a fun and fascinating insight into the world of one of the UKs great sporting heroes.”
