CONFIRMED: First Tier One country set for historic tour of Georgia in 2019

Scotland is going to be the first Tier 1 team to tour Georgia for a full international test against The Lelos in Tbilisi!

This series will serve as warm up matches for both teams ahead of Rugby World Cup 2019; as teams consider it as part of their pre-Rugby World Cup preparation. The series will include two matches: on August 24, 2019 The Lelos will host the Scots at Dinamo Arena, and on September 6/7 Georgia will face the Scotland at Murrayfield.

Scotland expressed their willingness to tour Georgia back in 2016, when they hosted the Leos in Kilmarnock and they have every intention to keep their word.

Georgia Rugby Union President Gocha Svanidze on two Unions’ agreement and the importance of the upcoming match:

“As we are approaching the Rugby World Cup 2019, Georgia has already launched its preparation campaign, in the end of which The Lelos will play two warm-ups against Scotland and our preparation stage will be perfectly completed with it.

“I want to thank the Scottish Rugby for this opportunity, which they had offered us back in 2016 during our test in Kilmarnock. I hope both teams will benefit from these matches. For Georgia, this is going to be the first experience of hosting a Tier 1 team and this makes it even more meaningful for us. On the other hand, these matches will help the coaching staff with the selection process and give them another opportunity for building the strongest team they can ahead of Japan 2019.”
