The five-figure payment the ‘Geography Six’ Lions call-ups will each pocket

Warren Gatland’s ‘Geography Six’ are set to earn more than £15,000 each for their tiny part in the Lions midweek matches despite only two of them making it onto the field, according to reports.

Welsh quartet Kristian Dacey, Gareth Davies, Cory Hill and Tomas Francis alongside Scottish duo Allan Dell and Finn Russell left New Zealand on Wednesday with no more midweek games left on the Lions tour.

But despite none of the Welshmen leaving the replacements bench against the Chiefs and Hurricanes, while Scots Dell and Russell played for a combined 15 minutes, the Daily Mail report all six are set to receive more than £15,000 each as a pro-rata payment of £70,000 tour fee.

“I’m definitely glad I came out here,” said Russell.

“I don’t think anyone would turn down the Lions. You’d really regret not coming. It’s a big chance. It might never happen again so you make the most of it.

“We’ve only been here 10 days. It’s been so quick. I guess in time it will sink in what it really means to play for the Lions, once we’re home and have more time to think it through”
