Folau launches GoFundMe to pay legal fees – and people haven’t been kind…

Israel Folau has launched a GoFundMe page to raise A$3m in order to cover his legal costs in his fight against his sacking by Rugby Australia for posting on social media that homosexuals will go to hell.

In a YouTube video posted on Thursday, the 73-cap full-back revealed he has already spent over $100,000 (£55,000) of his own money in the lost battle to save his career in rugby union and has turned to the public to support his case.

Earlier this month, Folau filed an application to the Australian Fair Work Commission, seeking a declaration that his employment was unlawfully terminated because of his religious beliefs.

Folau, one of Australia’s best-paid rugby stars, is seeking a pay-out of his contract, that had three years remaining on it, along with any other financial damages.

The full-back claims to have already spent $100,000 of his own money to fight RA’s internal tribunal but has insisted he’ll take the matter all the way to the High Court of Australia.
