Former referee Nigel Owens names five worst players he had to officiate

Nigel Owens was an international referee for 17 years and during that time encounter some challenging players as he names the five which he never enjoyed officiating

The former referee took charge of test matches between 2003 and 2020, which includes the 2015 Rugby World Cup final at Twickenham.

During that period he became known as one of the world’s top officials and was included in the teams that refereed the final of the 2016 Euros and final of the 2016 Champions League between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

He had his fair share of runnings with the likes of Owen Farrell, who was a hand full for any referee.

The England captain didn’t make his top five though as he recalled for Wales Online which players were most difficult to officiate.

Owens said: “Oh god yes, Biggar can be a tricky customer on the field.

“He’s so focused and so passionate about what he’s doing no matter the game or occasion, we’ve had a few run ins on the pitch down the years.

“I mean, it’s always been in a respectful way and we always have a drink and a laugh after the game.”

DID YOU KNOW? Biggar has his own routine before kicking goals, which fans now call “The Biggarena” after Los Del Rio‘s 1995 hit, Macarena.
