Wales look set to be without George North for the rest of their tour of New Zealand after he suffered a late injury in Auckland.

The winger hobbled off close to the end at Eden Park with a hamstring injury. Prior to that Northampton Saints man had been impressed for Wales as they pushed the All Blacks hard on Saturday before the world champions came through to win 39-21.

Wales head coach Warren Gatland said: “George has a hamstring injury and we’ll assess him tomorrow [Sunday] to see if he’ll be able to play a further part in the tour.

“It’s very disappointing because I thought George was outstanding today and his battle with Waisake Naholo was a great part of the game.”

All Blacks head coach Steve Hansen added that he doesn’t expect North to be play next week when the two sides meet in Wellington.

Hansen said: “I went into the Welsh dressing afterwards and it looks like North has pulled a hamstring and won’t be playing next week which is disappointing for him.”
