Guardian brutally picks five Lions who ‘let themself down’

Alun Wyn Jones’ made a stirring comeback and Maro Itoje shone – but too many Lions will feel they let themselves down, according to Robert Kiton from The Guardian.

The experienced rugby scribe has rated every Lion who played in the test series with these five receiving the most damning reviews.

#1. Owen Farrell (England)

Guardian: “The England captain would have hoped to play a much bigger on-field role. Unstinting team man as always but his omission from third Test squad will have stung.”

Our verdict: “A series to forget for the uninspiring England captain. Outshone by his junior Marcus Smith, it will be very interesting to see if he remains in Eddie Jones plans moving forward starting with the Autumn Internationals.”
