Harlequins name two vice-captains for Premiership season

Harlequins have confirmed that Mike Brown and Dave Ward have been appointed as the club’s vice-captains, assisting club captain James Horwill, for the new season.

Harlequins director of rugby, John Kingston said: “Mike and Dave offer a huge amount of rugby knowledge and experience.

“They will provide exactly the right type of support to James Horwill in his position as captain.

“Both are hugely energised by their new roles, and in helping drive this exciting group forward.”

Academy graduate Brown made his senior debut in 2005 and, with 280 appearances to his name, is close to breaking Nick Easter’s club record of 281 professional matches.

The 31-year-old has made 62 Test appearances for England since his 2007 debut and has regularly fulfilled the role of vice-captain for his country under head coach Eddie Jones.

Ward joined Harlequins in 2012 and has made 117 appearances for Harlequins, scoring six tries.

The versatile forward captained Harlequins in the Aviva Premiership against Newcastle Falcons last season and also led the club to the semi-finals of the Anglo-Welsh Cup.
