Injury News: Wasps star ruled out for six months

Wasps have confirmed that the foot injury sustained by Matt Symons will require a further period of recovery, estimated to be up to six months.

Having returned against Ospreys in the Anglo Welsh Cup, Symons was removed from the field after suffering similar symptoms to those previously encountered.

Symons has undergone an operation this week which went well. While it is too soon to put a date on his expected return to play, it is unfortunately anticipated that Matt will be side-lined for a few months.

On the news, Director of Rugby Dai Young said: “It’s obviously really disappointing and frustrating for Matt that he will be side-lined for a lengthy period and I really feel for him.

“Matt is a real warrior who was fantastic for us last season and he will be a big loss, but we are lucky to have a very competitive group of second rows who will have a chance to step up, which they have consistently done already this year.

“Matt will be working hard with our rehab team and we hope to welcome him back to fitness before the end of the season.”
