8. 1971 – New Zealand versus British & Irish Lions

The Lions won the first and third matches of the Test series, taking a 2-1 lead into match four. With just a draw needed to win the series, the match was a tight one and went into halftime deadlocked at 8-8. Early in the second half, the sides exchanged a try and a penalty to make it 11-11. That’s when fullback JPR WIlliams nailed a 45-meter drop goal that was pivotal in ultimately drawing the game at 14-14, giving the Lions the historic Test series win.


7. 1987 – New Zealand versus Italy

The first World Cup game ever played was a memorable occasion, whatever country you supported. New Zealand was the host nation and had a powerhouse of a team, playing a real minnow of the sport. Nobody really knew what to expect. Up until 1987, the Five Nations Championship was the only big rugby event. The 70-6 scoreline reflects how good the All Blacks were on the day.
