There have been 835 Lions dating all the way back to 1888. Jack Anderton of Salford was the first and Racing 92’s Finn Russell is the latest, but we’re going to look at the players who didn’t make the cut.
Despite their talent; whether it be attitude, bad-timing or injury, they would never wear the famous red jersey.
1. Danny Cipriani (England)
For such a wonderfully talented player, the playmaker will now more than likely end his career without going to a Rugby World Cup or on a British & Irish Lions tour.
Cipriani’s skill-set is so complete. He poses an attacking threat with ball in hand and has a superb kicking game and world-class distribution. Off the field issues mixed with bad luck meant he was never really considered despite his incredible talent.
