Captain Brough and team-mates Sam Brooks, who plays for Featherstone Rovers, Johnny Walker, a former Castleford and Hull KR prop who now plays in Australia, were sent home in disgrace from the World Cup for being too drunk.
5. Rob Howley (Wales)
The most recent of all our examples. In 2019, Wales assistant coach Rob Howley has been sent home from the World Cup in Japan for a breach of World Rugby’s regulation on betting. The 48-year-old former Wales captain, who had been part of Warren Gatland’s coaching team since 2008, was later given an 18-month ban from the sport.
