1. Mike Brown

His awful debut: In 2007, he started in an injury-ravaged England side that suffered a record 58-10 defeat to South Africa as the Springboks ran riot in the first Test in Bloemfontein. After being at fault for a try, he left the field with an injury to conclude a nightmare debut.

What happened after? During his career, Brown has won three Six Nations Championship titles with England  and one English Premiership title with Harlequins. In total, the 34-year-old won 72 caps between 2007 and 2019. Not bad considering his tough start.
