Melbourne Rebels hand out hefty fines for off-field altercation

Melbourne Rebels have fined departing forwards Amanaki Mafi and Lopeti Timani $15,000 (£8394) each for their physical altercation in New Zealand last weekend.

Ex-Bath star Mafi was also charged with a criminal offence, after the alleged assault of Timani, with his case adjourned by the Dunedin District Court until August 3.

Rugby Australia is conducting its own investigation into the incident.

The pair are now both continuing their careers overseas.
