Neil Back defends Jones decision to leave Sam Simmonds out…

Baxter is rapidly approaching the 12th anniversary of his time in charge at Exeter Chiefs and it may be difficult to prize him away from that.

But there is no doubt about his credentials; his time in charge at the Chiefs has seen the club change beyond recognition. 

In 2009, the club were promoted from the Championship as champions and – unlike their neighbours in Bristol – it was a slower process built around nurturing South West talents such as Jack Yeandle, Henry Slade and Jack Nowell.

They were crowned Premiership champions in 2017 and achieved a remarkable Champions Cup and Premiership double last season.

Could he be the man to bring out the best in England’s emerging talents long-term?
