New development in the proposed Racing/Stade Francais merger

  • Racing 92 and Stade Francais announced plans to combine forces next season
  • There was strong opposition to creation of Parisian super club from players
  • Stade Francais stars began open-ended strike last week, calling it a ‘takeover’
  • Racing 92 president Jacky Lorenzetti said he decided to give up project 
Racing 92’s controversial merger with Stade Francais has been abandoned, according to Racing president Jacky Lorenzetti.

“I renounce the plan for a rapprochement with Stade Francais, in agreement with Thomas Savare (Stade president) the merger will not take place,” said Lorenzetti in a statement.

“I heard and understood the strong reservations expressed in response to this project.

“In any case, the social, political, cultural, human, and sporting conditions were not in place.

“Perhaps we had the right plan too soon, only the future will tell,” added Lorenzetti.
