Nigel Owens set for record fifth Champions Cup final appearance

Welsh referee Nigel Owens will be the man in the middle for next month’s European Champions Cup final between Racing 92 and Saracens in Lyon.

Owens will be in charge for a record fifth time at Grand Stade de Lyon, having overseen the top-tier final in 2008, 2009, 2012 and last season.

The Champions Cup final, which takes place on Saturday, May 14 between Saracens and Racing 92, is on course for a 59,000-sell out.



The 44-year-old is currently the most experienced official in the northern hemisphere and has refereed 103 European club games to date.

Meanwhile, Ireland’s John Lacey has been appointed for the second-tier Challenge Cup final between Harlequins and Montpellier — which also takes place at the at the Grand Stade de Lyon.
