The six best players never to win the Champions Cup

The six best players never to win the Champions Cup

JASON ROBINSON

Known as Billy Whizz, this former rugby league star proved a hugely successful convert to Union. A lethal runner from full-back or wing, he was a nightmare to mark in one-on-one situations. Had a knack of scoring memorable tries on the big stage. Following his return to Union, he joined Sale Sharks and never really got close to winning the big European competition.

DID YOU KNOW: He became the first person to have won both the Guinness Premiership and the Super League trophies.

GEORGE SMITH

The scourge of the Lions at the age of 20 and more than 100 caps to his name for the Wallabies before he was 30. However, despite successful spells with Toulon, Stade Francais, Lyon and Waps, he was never able to win the big one. Smith did reach the semi-final with Wasps in 2016, but they were beaten 24–17 by eventual winners Saracens.

DID YOU KNOW: He was easily recognised on the field by his dreadlocked hair style until late 2006 – when he decided to sell his dreadlocks for charity.
