Owen Farrell could be best player in Europe says Eddie Jones

  • Eddie Jones has voiced his full support for Owen Farrell to be named European Player of the Year
  • The England coach hailed the Sarries star for his displays following his critical role in the Grand Slam triumph
  • Saracens reached the European Champions Cup final after a 24-17 win against Wasps on Saturday
Eddie Jones has backed Saracens and England’s Owen Farrell in the race to be crowned European Player of the Year.

The England head coach hailed the Sarries star, telling the Rugby Paper: “The one player who has really impressed me since the Six Nations has been Owen Farrell. When he gets on the field, he has a real presence about him.

“He is still relatively young but he is now playing with a very old head and real confidence and belief every time he goes out there.

“Its a very strong list with so many outstanding players who have had fantastic seasons with their club and countries. But Owen should definitely be in very good contention for the award.”

The winner will be announced during May’s European finals weekend in Lyon.

Clermont Auvergne’s Abendanon, who scored a try in a losing cause in the 2015 European Champions Cup final, is the current holder of the award.
