RANKED | Rugby’s greatest entertainers of all-time

5. Dave Walder

The man who led Newcastle Falcons to a remarkable 2019/20 promotion campaign as Head Coach, in his playing days the now 42-year-old was a clever fly half who scored over 1,000 career points.

Newcastle-born Walder was tearing around the Premiership alongside Jonny Wilkinson at the turn of the century and collected his first England cap in 2001, with his last of four international caps coming in a World Cup warm-up match in 2003.

At that point, he had scored an admirable 41 points in four appearances for the national team, but missed selection for the World Cup as Wilkinson went on to become a hero with THAT drop goal which brought the cup home.

Walder would go on the enjoy a solid club career which took in spells with Wasps and Japanese outfit Mitsubishi Sagamihara DynaBoars, but his international career will remain a case of what might have been.
