A Hamilton-based rugby club has been told it can’t host Lions’ fans in campervans even though they’re based just 100m from the Chiefs stadium, who the tourists take on at FMG Stadium Waikato on June 20.
“Those bookings could have earned Hamilton Old Boys about $1000,” Club manager Amelie Sutcliffe said.
“It’s a huge amount for a community rugby club like us,
“It’s just an unfair, unnecessary and frustrating rule that doesn’t seem to have any point to it apart from stopping us from making a bit of money.”
Sutcliffe said the conditions for the resource consent application were impossible.
“There was just no way we would have been able to get it together in time,” she said.

“What they were expecting us to do as far as that application was just ridiculous and how much it was going to cost us. It was just over the top and completely unnecessary.
“We have toilets, showers, a kitchen and we had planned to have 24-hour security on board. It’s our property, we rent it, so it’s in our best interest to keep everything tidy.”
