REPORTS | All Blacks legend Kieran Read set to make return to rugby

Former All Blacks captain Kieran Read is set to make his return to New Zealand rugby.

The New Zealand Herald has reported that an agreement has been reached with Read’s Japanese club Toyota Verblitz for him to play for Counties Manukau in this year’s Mitre 10 Cup

Read has ‘told those close to him he will play for Counties Manukau’ and an official announcement is expected in days.

The 34-year-old made 127 appearances for the All Blacks over 11 years, including 52 as captain, before retiring from test rugby following last year’s World Cup.

1. Steff Evans & Josh Adams

When the pair lined up as fresh-faced 11-year-olds in the same schoolboys team at the Millennium Stadium, only in their wildest of dreams could they have imagined they would be back there playing for their country in a Six Nations match in front of 74,500 fans.

Yet that childhood fantasy became reality in 2018 when the former classmates reunited in Warren Gatland’s new-look side that thumped Scotland 34-7 in Cardiff. Evans currently turns out for Scarlets while Adams joined Cardiff Blues from Worcester in 2019.
