REPORTS | Eddie Jones emerges as shock candidate for new role

Despite reports in Australia, RUCK sources suggest that England head coach Eddie Jones HAS NOT held talks over a surprise switch to rugby league.

The Australian, who is contracted with the Rugby Football Union until the next World Cup, is apparently top of the wish list for NRL side Cronulla Sharks.

A report in the Aussie press suggests the Southern Sydney outfit, who currently sit in the bottom half of the NRL table, are keen on Jones even though he has made his name in rugby union for more than 25 years.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Jones is one of three names in the frame to replace current Sharks head coach John Morris, but we understand no talks have taken place.

EDITORS PICKS:

The 60-year-old Australian steered England to the final of the tournament last year where the side were comprehensively beaten by South Africa in Japan and there had been some speculation he could be set to stand down from the position.

However, with Jones committing his future not just to union but to the England national team and RFU until 2023, a sudden exit to a completely new sport would come as a major shock
