Lock: Alun Wyn Jones – Wales
Lock: Grant Gilchrist – Scotland
The lock was an imposing figure in defence, landing 19 tackles to blunt Italy’s attack time and time again. Was also a good option at the lineout. An all-action display around the park.
Flanker: Mark Wilson – England
Heroic. Amazing line speed, lots of tackles (20), and intelligent rugby. Didn’t look out of place up against Ireland’s ‘world-class’ back-row.
Flanker: Justin Tipuric – Wales
A defensive masterclass and an excellent all-round game from a player who wouldn’t know how to spell the word ‘ordinary’ if you gave him 50 attempts. Tipuric is shot through with warrior spirit and he covered, scavenged and supported relentlessly. Was still there at the end, hauling down blue-shirted ball-carriers.
Number 8: Louis Picamoles – France
His bruising finish for the first try through a number of red bodies was very well-taken indeed before he superbly denied Liam Williams a try soon after.
