Rugby star drops a stone and half in bid to impress Eddie Jones

England hopeful Alex Dombrandt believes he is in tip-top condition for a New Year assault on winning his first England cap.

The 23-year-old, who has dropped a stone and a half, was lampooned by club boss Paul Gustard for his ‘university rig’ when he emerged from Cardiff Met two years ago to take the Premiership by storm.

At the conclusion of the 2018/19 season, Dombrandt was selected alongside Marcus Smith and Joe Marchant for England’s Quilter Cup match against the Barbarians at Twickenham, where he scored two tries. This performance merited his selection for Eddie Jones’ World Cup training camp.

Here we look at five other rugby stars’ incredible body transformations from down the years.

1. James Haskell

The former England flanker – who signed for MMA promotion Bellator last August – after his retirement from rugby has dropped a ton of weight ahead of his first fight. A trip into I’m A Celebrity Get Me out Of here sure did help him get lean. This sort of diet isn’t recommended.
