Sale Sharks sign Laurence Pearce from Leicester Tigers

  • Sale Sharks have signed back-row forward Laurence Pearce from Leicester
  • The 25-year-old has played 26 games for the Tigers
  • Pearce played rugby league for Hull FC and York City Knights before crossing codes
Sale Sharks have secured their second new signing for next season after confirming the capture of Leicester Tigers back row star Laurence Pearce.

A cross-code convert, having formerly played rugby league for Super League side Hull FC, Pearce made the switch to Union in 2012, making an immediate impact with Championship side Rotherham Titans before being signed by Leicester in 2014.

Since arriving at Welford Road, the 25-year-old has played 26 games for the Tigers, scoring eight tries.

The back-rower will add some serious physicality to the Sale pack and director of rugby Steve Diamond revealed his delight at having clinched his signing.

“He is a dynamic ball-carrier, who will boost our already abrasive back five. I am so pleased Laurence has signed for us,” admitted Diamond.

Pearce added: “I am delighted to be moving north to play for Sharks.

“I would like to thank Leicester Tigers for giving me the opportunity to play in the Premiership and also the fans, who have been great to me since I joined from Rotherham.”

While Pearce will be moving north up the M1 in the summer, long-serving Sale winger Tom Brady will be making the move in the opposite direction, having signed a deal to join Leicester in the summer.
