Social media reacts to France red card for ‘eye-gouge’

France ended Saturday night’s blockbuster clash with Wales in Paris with 14 men after the controversial dismissal of Paul Willemse on 70 minutes.

Willemse was sent off for making contact with the eye of Wales prop Wyn Jones. The incident took some time to clear, with the alleged gouge not spotted initially.

TMO Wayne Barnes checked it out and the decision was made after much deliberation. The French protests were fruitless as they carried on with 13 men until Mohamed Haouas returned from the sin-bin a couple of minutes later.

Here’s how social media reacted to the decision, which would prove to be a huge moment in the tie.
