Statement: Two France stars have been arrested in South America

Two members of the French national rugby team have been arrested in Argentina following allegations of sexual assault, a justice official from Mendoza province has revealed.

Hugo Auradou and Oscar Jegou, both of whom played in France’s 28-13 victory against Argentina on Saturday, were detained in Buenos Aires. The pair are set to be transferred to Mendoza, where the alleged crime took place.

“A commission from Mendoza is traveling to Buenos Aires today to bring them back and proceed with the necessary examinations,” said Martin Ahumada, a spokesman for the Mendoza prosecutor’s office.

“If the examinations corroborate the victim’s testimony, charges will be filed,” Ahumada told AFP.

The news comes just two days after French full-back Melvyn Jaminet was suspended by the federation for posting a video containing a racist comment on social media. Jaminet, who plays for Toulon, shared the video on Instagram following the team’s victory against Argentina.

Despite deleting the video, it was widely circulated on social media, leading to the 25-year-old’s expulsion from the tour.

Five players who FLOPPED this weekend, including England star

Here, we examine five players who fell short of expectations for their respective countries this weekend…

#1. Josh Hathaway

Rugby Pass 2/10: “A bit of a shocker sadly. Showed inexperience with an overcooked kick to space early on which landed squarely in touch. Missed five tackles in total and simply walked into touch when receiving the ball near the Wallaby touchline. Not a day to remember.”

Wales Online 5/10: “Put one kick out on the full while his loose punt up-field also resulted in Tom Wright scoring the decisive try for the Wallabies. Showed signs of his threat with ball in hand but it didn’t come his way often enough.”
