Team GB 26-7 Fiji: GB girls show pace, power, agility and more

  • Team GB booked their place in the final four after beating Fiji 26-7
  • Tries from Abbie Brown (2), Joanne Watmore and Alice Richardson secured the girls win
  • Australia meet Canada in the other Olympic semi-final
Team GB roared into the semi-finals with either New Zealand or USA to come.

Katy McLean’s inch-perfect restart was gracefully snatched out of the air by Abbie Brown, who accelerated past her markers for a superb converted score.

However, Fiji hit back with sheer power as Litia Naiqato brushes off tacklers to touch down under the posts with three minutes on the clock in the first-half, 12-7.

Alice Richardson though put GB back in front as she latched onto Jo Watmore’s offload to sprint under the posts. And GB sealed a 12-point cushion at the break as Watmore saunters into space after a Fiji handling error on the hooter, 19-7.

After the restart, Brown then cut clean through the defence on a goregous line to score under the posts. A three score lead with 90 seconds to play.
