French Top 14 club Lyon reportedly sounded out England rugby legend Jonny Wilkinson over a potential short-term move.

Injuries to Frédéric Michalak and Jacques-Louis Potgieter has left Lyon searching for an out-half, with former Wallaby Mike Harris their only available option.

Wilkinson is no stranger to France, having guided Toulon to back to back European Cup titles.

Despite reports that Lyon were set to offer Wilkinson a deal that would have made him one of the league’s top earners, the former Toulon out-half has reportedly ‘politely refused’ the offer.

The French club nevertheless could come back with an even larger offer in the coming days.
