A 19-year-old rugby player with the Stade Francais academy team has died after suffering a broken neck and a heart attack during a game last weekend.
Nicolas Chauvin sustained the injuries after suffering a heavy tackle against Bordeaux-Begles and was subsequently rushed to hospital. An operation was carried out on his neck injury, but Stade Francais have tonight announced that Chauvin passed away following ‘cardiac arrest and cerebral anoxia’.
“It is with great sadness that the Stade Français Paris announces the death of Nicolas Chauvin, young hopeful of the club, who died tonight at CHU Pellegrin in Bordeaux,” the club said in a statement.
