The reason the Barbarians didn’t call up Danny Cipriani revealed…

Barbarians head coach Pat Lam has confirmed that Danny Cipriani was in his plans.

On Sunday, The Rugby Paper reported that the Gloucester playmaker was set for a call-up to the Baa-baas to face an England XV at Twickenham this Sunday.

However, in an interview with The Telegraph, Lam confirmed the Barbarians were informed he was unavailable for selection.

“I spoke with Danny,” said Lam.

“He did not turn it down. There are just some players that weren’t available, that weren’t allowed to be available.

“He was unavailable because there are some players that want to play but they have to be signed off by the unions, or their clubs.

“There is the Ireland World Cup squad, the Wales World Cup squad, the England World Cup squad, Scotland World Cup squad.

“Once I talk to the player and they are keen they have to be signed off and some players weren’t signed off because of World Cup squads.

“I’m predicting that the ones that weren’t available – and this isn’t guaranteed – but you are expecting to see them in their World Cup squads.”
