Eddie Jones:third Test against Australia 'like World Cup final'

Eddie Jones tells his players to treat third Test against Australia as ‘our World Cup final’

  • England’s third Test against Australia in Sydney on Saturday is “like a World Cup final”, says coach Eddie Jones
  • Jones men have beaten the Wallabies in Brisbane and Melbourne to establish an unassailable 2-0 lead
  • The men in white have climbed up three places to second in the world rankings, behind New Zealand
Eddie Jones issued a rallying call to his England players on arrival in Sydney to treat Saturday’s dead-rubber third Test against Australia as “our World Cup final”.

“This third Test is like a World Cup final,” said Jones.

“To win a World Cup you have to win three big games in a row – the quarters, the semi and then the final. It’s a great dress rehearsal for us. We want to put our best 80 minutes out there because we haven’t seen that so far in this series.

“We want to be the best team in the world and to win this series 3-0 would indicate that we have got the right to be the second best team in the world and then we take it from there.

“I think it is good for world rugby that England are strong. New Zealand have been up there all the time and it’s about time someone put a real challenge on them and we are going to be the side to do that. They are the most pragmatic side in world rugby and that’s what we want to be.”
